Congratulations to GreenMark PR’s own Beth Burdin for receiving the Park District of Oak Park’s 2008 Community Service Award, for her personal contributions. Presented annually by The Illinois Association of Park Districts and the Illinois Park and Recreation Association, the award is given to individuals and organizations in recognition and appreciation of outstanding contribution and unselfish devotion for the advancement of parks, recreation and leisure in the community and the state of Illinois.Burdin joined the Park District Citizen’s Committee (PDCC) in February 2007, after serving on the Park District Recreation Center Historical Stewardship Committee in 2006. While serving on the PDCC, she was asked to lead a “working group” to address tree preservation, recycling, community gardens and natural areas in our parks, which came to be known as the Greening Task Force. Under Burdin’s leadership, this group worked for more than a year to develop the Park District’s recently accepted comprehensive Environmental Policy. This policy reflects the District’s commitment to setting an example and assuming a leadership position in the development and use of policies, practices and environmental opportunities which promote a healthy environment.
Burdin was also appointed chairperson of the Greening Advisory Committee, a new Park District committee, which oversees the implementation of the Environmental Policy.
“I’m honored to share this accomplishment with the PDOP staff and GAC Volunteers,” she said. “Early in the process, we discovered there was no existing template for this policy, and through research and idea sharing, we created an environmental road map of Oak Park’s very own. I look forward to experiencing what the policy and GAC will bring all of us as we work toward the greening of our village.”
GreenMark PR is proud of Beth, and the wonderful green work she is doing for her community and for our clients. Check out her bio.
